R&R is thrilled to be entering the world of competitive dance!
The comp world is an amazing place for students to find out what kind of dancer they are, show everyone what they’ve got and also to learn from all of the other amazing and talented dancers they will meet along the way.
Why should your child enter into the world of competitive dance?
Whether you are a competitive dancer or not, dance teaches proper posture, grace, flexibility, discipline, technique and how to be a team player. These things are only accentuated by entering into the competitive world. There is more sense of determination and drive as we set goals with your child to ultimately achieve. Being part of the competitive team helps to build pride, confidence, independence, respect, discipline, as well as the skills it takes to work together as a team. We are big on always having a family atmosphere, and always helping one another to become the best dancer they can be. We act as a family as we are a competitive team. No one is better than another and we are not competing against each other. We are to support and encourage one another.
What to expect from a competition
Competitions vary in formats, each one has its own particular set of rules and they all have something different and special to offer. When your child enters into a competition they can expect to be judged on their showmanship, technique, style, and over all execution of their performance. They will be critiqued on how they compare to fellow dancers of the same age and style. There may be special awards given from judges for costuming, presence, quirkiness etc. It would depend on each competition. They will always be given critiques from each judge, whether it be written or audio/video.
We welcome all dancers to audition for our competitive dance team.
