What is Competitive Dance?
At Roland & Romaine, we are proud to offer dancers the opportunity to be part of the exciting and rewarding world of competitive dance!
Being on the competitive team is about more than just performing on stage—it’s about growth, commitment, and connection. Competitive dance fosters discipline, teamwork, and perseverance as dancers work together toward shared goals. It also builds confidence through regular performance opportunities and encourages dancers to push their personal limits, both technically and artistically.
Beyond the steps, competitive dance teaches life skills: time management, resilience, receiving feedback with confidence, and supporting others. Perhaps most importantly, it helps dancers form lasting friendships and a strong sense of belonging within a team.

Through goal-setting, consistent training, and shared experiences, dancers gain not only strength and skill, but also confidence, independence, and pride in what they do. We are a dance family first—lifting one another up, celebrating each other’s successes, and always working together to bring out the best in every dancer.

What to Expect at a Competition
Each competition brings something unique to the stage. While formats and judging criteria may vary, dancers are typically evaluated on technique, stage presence, artistry, musicality, and overall execution. Each routine receives a score out of 100, along with personalized feedback from a panel of professional adjudicators to help dancers grow and improve.
A typical competition runs over 3–4 days, often spanning a weekend. At R&R, we generally attend three competitions per season—two local events and one out-of-town—offering dancers a great mix of experience, fun, and team bonding.

Auditions
Auditions for the 2026-27 Season will take place Sunday June 7th and Tuesday June 9th. Please come prepared in proper dance attire, with various footwear if auditioning for multiple styles (eg. jazz shoes, turning shoes/foot thongs, indoor running shoes.)
