Each class begins with a warm-up in order to prevent injuries during the class. Various stretching and strengthening exercises are performed specific to each style of dance.
Occasionally, the last ten minutes of the class we will bring all dancers into the main studio. Each class will perform what they have been learning for each other. The sense of encouragement and confidence that this brings, furthers the student’s ability to perform in front of an audience. It also provides a feeling of accomplishment that helps to build self confidence.
The first half of the year will be spent teaching the appropriate syllabus of steps to each class, incorporating it into different combinations each week. During the second half of the year, classes begin developing a routine for our year-end Showcase.
**New This Year**
Combo Classes:
JK/SK Fancy Jazz – Ballet & Jazz
JK/SK Funky Feet – Hip Hop & Tap
Musical Theatre/Tap
These classes are structured with variety in mind! Dancers get a taste of the beginner levels of Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap and/or Musical Theatre. Each combination class will focus on 2 styles of dance learning the basic fundamentals, terminology, coordination and more.
Ballet
Ballet is the classic foundation of all dance. It focuses on technique, flexibility, posture, balance and grace. Well recognized for its physical benefits and beauty, ballet can be tedious but very rewarding. Students will learn barre work as wells as centre floor work using classical ballet vocabulary.
Jazz
Jazz combines technique from ballet as well as modern dance. It includes all the necessary skills and coordination needed to perform current jazz trends. We strive to perfect turns, leaps and proper technique. In the older levels we begin to not only work on technique but start to add more style to our steps. This encourages each individual dancer to discover what kind of dancer they really are. It is a healthy work out and lots of fun. There are many different types of Jazz dance such as, street jazz, broadway, jazz funk, and classical jazz.
Tap
Incredible footwork and rhythms allow you to become part of the music. You become the percussion, you are the back beat. Tap develops coordination, style, rhythm and flow. Instead of finding the beat and rhythm in the music you also have to discover it in your own body. It’s not only a great cardio work out but it is also an amazing work out for your brain because of its vast vocabulary. With both a visual and audio kick, tap remains an all time favourite for all ages.
Acro
Acro brings the dynamics of gymnastics and the beauty of dance together. This class is as exciting for the participant as it is the audience. Acro works on perfecting tricks, and balances while improving flexibility and overall body strength.
Hip Hop
This vastly popular street style of dance is a high energy dance experience and is fun for all ages. It can be challenging, but the movement helps to gain co-ordination and rhythm. Hip hop dance has been around for ages. We incorporate old styles and new current styles of hip hop to create fun and creative combinations.
Lyrical
The beauty and strength of ballet and jazz combined. this class helps develop control, balance and the emotional interpretation of the music. Lyrical dance isn’t all smiles and stank faces, but a spectrum of different emotions and expressions. One has to understand not only the rhythm of the music but also the meaning of the choreography/music.
Musical Theatre
The ultimate performance through dance and theatre. Characterization and dances are inspired by the songs from movies, and musicals. If you’ve ever dreamed of being on stage, this class is for you. Acting games will be played to build self confidence and skills in role playing. Lyrics are learned in order to lip sync or sing during the dances learned. It is a fun and outgoing class to be a part of . Jazz experience is necessary.
